Mock Parliament

 Introduction

A mock parliament is a simulated legislative body that is used to provide students, community groups, or other organizations with an opportunity to learn about parliamentary procedure and the democratic process. Mock parliaments are often used in educational settings, such as schools or universities, to help students understand how laws are made, how different political parties and ideologies interact, and how debates and negotiations can shape the political process.

In a mock parliament, participants take on the roles of different political parties and representatives, and engage in debates and discussions about issues of public concern. They follow the rules of parliamentary procedure, such as Robert's Rules of Order, and work together to craft bills, amendments, and other legislative proposals.

Mock parliaments can be a fun and engaging way to learn about politics, and can help students develop critical thinking skills, public speaking abilities, and an understanding of how government works. They can also be used to encourage civic engagement and activism, and to foster a sense of responsibility and involvement in the democratic process.

Outcome:

  1. Increased understanding of parliamentary procedure: Participants in a mock parliament will become more familiar with the rules and procedures that govern legislative bodies, including how bills are introduced, debated, and voted on.

  2. Improved public speaking skills: Participants will have the opportunity to practice their public speaking skills by delivering speeches, participating in debates, and engaging in discussions with others.

  3. Development of critical thinking skills: Participants will need to analyze complex issues, evaluate different perspectives, and make informed decisions based on evidence and reasoned arguments.
